Mabon: Harvest, Gratitude & Ancestral Wisdom.
Share
Mabon is one of the most beautiful autumn celebrations on the Wheel of the Year. It takes place around the Fall Equinox, when day and night come into balance once again.
At this time, nature completes another cycle. The fields have yielded their crops, the orchards are filled with ripe fruit, and the Earth begins preparing for her season of rest.
Mabon is a time to express gratitude—to the Earth for her abundance, to the Divine for guidance, and to our ancestral lineage for the life, strength, and wisdom passed down through generations.
For me, Mabon is not only about the physical harvest. It is also a time to recognize the fruits of our work, choices, knowledge, and spiritual growth. Sometimes, it is during this sacred season that help arrives from a place we no longer expected.
What Happened to Me One Year Ago
Long before Mabon, I had dreamed of creating my own rune oracle deck and writing a companion guidebook.
I envisioned the cards in a magical Northern style, filled with powerful imagery, ancient wisdom, the spirit of the northern landscape, and the energy of the runic archetypes.
But I could not find an artist who truly understood my vision. Everything I was shown felt wrong. The images were beautiful in their own way, but they did not reflect what I could see and feel within myself.
The book was not coming together either. I tried to write, searched for the right words, and rewrote the material again and again. Yet the language felt awkward and lifeless. It did not express the knowledge and emotions I wanted to place into my work.
After many unsuccessful attempts—and quite a lot of frustration—I finally decided to stop. I placed this dream on my wish list and told myself that perhaps its time had not yet come.
Then Mabon arrived—a celebration of the harvest, gratitude, and ancestral connection.
That day, I decorated my altar, created a special candle in honor of my ancestral lineage, and prepared offerings. I thanked my ancestors for the gift of life, for their knowledge, and for the strength carried through generations.
That night, I had an extraordinary dream. It felt like a message.
I heard voices and songs in a language I had never known. Yet somehow, I understood every word. It was not an intellectual understanding. The meaning seemed to open from somewhere deep within me, awakening an ancient memory that had been waiting for the right moment.
During the following week, I created my first rune oracle deck, Runes: Strength of the Lineage, along with its companion guidebook.
Everything that had felt blocked suddenly began to flow. The imagery, meanings, and words came together naturally, forming the system I had been trying to create for so long.
Only one month later, 26 newly printed decks and guidebooks were lying in front of me.
As I held them in my hands, I understood: this was my harvest.
It was not only the result of my own work. To me, it was also a gift from my ancestral lineage—a response to gratitude, trust, and my willingness to listen.
Our Ancestors Continue Through Us
Our ancestral lineage is more than a collection of names on a family tree. It carries the experiences, talents, wisdom, resilience, and spiritual strength of countless generations.
Sometimes ancestral support reveals itself through a dream, an unexpected insight, a new opportunity, or a sudden creative awakening. To recognize that quiet guidance, we may need to pause, express our gratitude, and open our hearts.
We are the continuation of those who came before us. The fruits of our actions today may one day become part of the legacy we leave to those who come after us.
This Mabon, consider lighting a candle in gratitude for your ancestral lineage. Place bread, apples, honey, nuts, seasonal fruit, or other meaningful offerings on your altar. Remember your ancestors with respect and thank them for the life, strength, experience, and gifts that have reached you through the generations.
Reflect on what you have created and accomplished during the past year. Then consider the seeds you wish to plant for the next cycle of your life.
May the coming year bring you a generous harvest of health, well-being, inspiration, prosperity, and new opportunities.
May everything you create serve the highest good of you, your loved ones, and your entire ancestral lineage.
Honor to those who came before us.
Blessings to those who walk beside us.
Strength and prosperity to those who will come after us.
